The Statue of Liberty is placed in the center of the flag to symbolize the strength of the United States. She is on a flat surface to represent America's firm footing and stability. The 13 stripes symbolizing the original 13 colonies radiate out from the Statue of Liberty to pull viewers into the statue. The stripes are colored in red to symbolize the blood spilt to obtain and maintain freedom. The 50 stars represent the 50 states.
