In a series of publications in the social network X on Saturday, Zelenskyy said that the Ukrainians are “very grateful to the United States for all the support,” and gave Trump specifically thanks and Congress.
The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, thanked the “American people” on Saturday and his leadership and expressed his hope for achieving “solid relations”, less than a day after a surprising clash with Donald Trump in the White House that left many insecure about the position of the former allies.
Ukraine arrived at that meeting willing to sign an agreement on critical minerals with the United States, hoping that it would be a fair fire, but came out empty.
In a series of publications in the social network X on Saturday, Zelenskyy said that the Ukraine are “very grateful to the United States for all the support”, and specifically thanked Trump and Congress, in addition to the “American people.”
“Our relationship with the US president is more than that of two leaders: it is a historical and solid link among our peoples (…) the American people helped save our people,” he said. “We just want solid relationships with the United States and I hope we have them.”
Zelenskyy also said that it was “very important” that the difficult situation of Ukraine was heard and not forgotten. “
“It is very important for us that Ukraine is heard and that nobody forgets her, neither during the war nor later. It is important that the people of Ukraine know that they are not alone, that their interests are represented in all countries, in every corner of the world.”
After his abrupt departure from the White House, Zelenskyy arrived in the United Kingdom on Saturday, where he met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer before a summit of European leaders attended by the Ukrainian President on Sunday to discuss a peace plan for Ukraine.
Starmer expressed the “full support throughout the United Kingdom.” “We are with you and with Ukraine as long as necessary,” he said.
Other European leaders issued messages of support to Zelenskyy and Ukraine shortly after the meeting with Trump, highlighting an important gap between traditional United States and Europe on the war since Trump returned to the presidency.
Starmer spoke with both Trump and Zelenskyy on Friday and the French president, Emmanuel Macron, also visited Trump in Washington this week.
Zelenskyy also plans King Carlos on Sunday. The British newspaper Sun said the meeting would take place on the monarch farm in Sandringham, east of England.
The United Kingdom has been a firm defender of Ukraine and Carlos had already expressed his support for Zelenskyy, speaking of the “determination and strength” of the Ukrainian people before the unprovided attack of Russia.
During his visit to the White House, Starmer gave Trump a written invitation of the king for a state visit, which would make the US president the first elected political leader of modern times to be received in two state visits by a British monarch.
