The United States Global Media Agency announced on Thursday that the journalist turned into Kari Lake policy will join the organization as a special advisor.
Lake, a journalist for 30 years, was appointed by President Donald Trump in December as the person who would like Voice of America (Voice of America, VOA).
The Lake selection for that position has been delayed while the one chosen by Trump to direct the USAGM, the conservative political activist and writer L. Brent Bozell III, awaits his confirmation audience in the Senate.
The agency is also waiting for a new bipartisan Board to be installed, which will work together with the Executive Director in matters such as the appointment or dismissal of the heads of the chain.
Roman Napoli announced Lake's arrival in an email to staff. Napoli is performing the functions of the USAGM executive director. The previous director, Amanda Bennett, resigned.
Lake “provides great experience in television journalism, having spent more than two decades as a presenter and reporter in the main media markets,” Napoli wrote.
Highlighting his achievements, Napoli said that Lake had interviewed leaders, including two presidents from the United States, and had received two Emmy awards for his international reports.
“As the main advisor of the Trump administration, Kari will help Usagm implement the necessary policies and strategies to optimize the agency, its networks and its beneficiaries,” said email.
Usagm supervises several entities dedicated to informing news and fighting censorship that have a combined weekly audience scope of more than 420 million. These organizations include VOA, the Cuba broadcasting office and non -profit organizations Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio Free Asia, Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Open Technology Fund and Frontline Media Fund.
In addition to supervising independent networks, Usagm has the declared mission of “informing, involving and connecting people around the world in support of freedom and democracy.”
In his email to the staff, Napoli said that Lake's experience “will be invaluable as we continue our mission of clearly and effectively presenting the Trump administration policies worldwide.”
The Department of Public Affairs of Usagm did not immediately respond to the request for comments of VOA.
An editorial firewall prevents Usagm from getting involved in the journalistic production of the entities it supervises.
The media under Usagm have been fighting misinformation and propaganda from the first VOA transmissions in Nazi Germany during World War II. He has also attracted criticism for alleged bias, coverage, poor management and security failures, including staff background research.
Lake made reference to some of the criticisms aimed at Usagm in his comments at the Constructor Political Action Conference last week.
Lake told the audience that, as director of VOA, the news agency will focus on producing “precise and honest reports.”
“VOA has been telling the history of the United States to the world for 83 years this Monday. Sometimes the coverage has been incredible and sometimes it has been unfortunate,” said Lake. “We are freeing a war of information, and there is no better weapon than the truth, and I think that VOA could be that weapon.”
Among those who have asked to be cut the chain is Trump's special advisor, Elon Musk.
“We will not become Trump's television,” he said, “but surely it will not be 'TDS TV'. You can find all Trump disorder syndrome you want in CNN, MSNBC, PBS, '60 Minutes', The Washington Post and The New York Times. ”
In addition to his experience in journalism, Lake Sha given a more recently.
He left his work at an Arizona news station so he said he felt it was misinformation about pandemic. He ran unsuccessfully to Governor of Arizona and challenged his defeat in judicial demands. A candidacy for senator was also unsuccessful.
