Trump threatens with reciprocal tariff

President Donald Trump threatens with reciprocal tariffs on wood and dairy dairy products. The president made the announcement on Friday from the Oval Office of the White House.

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said Friday that Canada has been “scamming” to his country for years with tariffs on wood and dairy products and threatened to impose reciprocal tariffs.

In statements to journalists in the Oval office, Trump said that the “tremendous tariffs” that Canada imposes on American dairy products and timber makes it impossible for the US to sell their products in Canada. The president said that, unless Canada agrees to eliminate them, he will impose the same tariff to that nation.

Thursday, Trump delayed his new tariffs for four weeks 25% to most Mexican and Canadian exports to the United States. The Republican said he delayed Mexico's tariffs after listening directly to Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum, who said her government had helped curb the flow of migrants and the deadly opioid, Fentanilo, towards the US.

A day before, Trump announced that he was stopping tariffs on vehicle imports from the two countries after the three largest American car manufacturers said that tariffs would have a serious financial impact on them.

Trump said Friday that “India charges us massive tariffs” and that the United States could not sell anything in India. However, the Indian Foreign Ministry announced on Friday that it was working on a bilateral commercial agreement with the United States that “would reduce tariff and non -tariff barriers and deepen the integration of the supply chain between the two countries.”
