Thanks to “The Substance”, BodyHorror is no longer a niche topic for the dirty corner, even five Oscar nominations – including As the best film and for Demi Moore as the best leading actress-the film of “Revenge” director Coralie Fargeeat jumped out in the end. Now there is “Together – inseparable“Finally appreciate supplies-a particularly sneaky spice girls song included.
If “The Substance” was still a satire on the-not only rampant youth craze, the Australian feature film government of Michael Shanks has now buttoned up the genre of romantic comedy, in order to together with his stars Dave Franco (“The Incredible”) and Alison Brie (“Promising Young”) through that) Turn body horror meat grinder.

The fact that Dave Franco and Alison Brie are also a couple in real life gives “Together” an additional, exciting level.
Tim (Dave Franco) and Millie (Alison Brie) have been together for so long that some signs of wear and tear have crept into their relationship. This is also why they decide to move from the big city of Melbourne to a sleepy town on the edge of the outback. Millie received a well -paid job offer as a teacher from the school there – which is not unimportant, because the hope that Tim's music career could take off at some point is increasingly disappearing.
On a first walk through the rural surroundings of her new home, the couple falls into a deep Senkloch, which apparently must have already swallowed a kind of temple or church. Since you have no water, Tim drinks from a large puddle in the cave before making a make time for the night. When Tim and Millie can finally free themselves and go home the next morning, a lot has changed with the two – interpersonal, but also literally physically …
The less you know before, the better
It is almost impossible to write more about the film without at least indicated certain aspects of the plot. If the genre, the line -up, our introductory words and the short table of contents already agree on you, then it is best to simply go to the cinema and only continue to read afterwards. And just as important: It is best to save yourself the already too much -loving trailer for afterwards!
You still read? Okay, then continue to your own danger:
Maybe you have heard him in a film or in real life: a person's (romantic) wish to want to merge with someone else. In the future, anyone who has seen “Together – Inseparable” will hardly get around in the future to think back to the film – because some of the goosebumps -generating pictures will soon no longer be got out of your head. Director Michael Shanks and his cameraman Germain McMicking (“True Detective”) have succeeded with a detailed sound design plus a combination of practical and digital effects to create astonishingly convincing, sometimes painful shots of cracking bones and to rip-up.

After falling into the cave, it takes a whole night for the couple to fight back on the surface.
The atmosphere – both in the new house of the couple and in the cave – actually looks pleasantly warm, but at the same time it is always subliminally threatening, almost as if something was bubbling. Anyone who goes into the film unprepared will, on the other hand, will believe for quite a while that “Together – Invisible” is a relationship drama between a patent, successful woman and her nothing in the series. Already at the farewell party in Melbourne, the cracks in the ratio between Tim and Millie can be clearly recognized: Because she feels that her loved one is becoming more and more distant from her, the desperate Millie makes a marriage proposal in front of him.
His much too long hesitation before he finally consent to it, but actually says everything. Tim would rather be alone again, but cannot afford this step without his – everyone knows that, including himself! – To finally give up hopeless dreams of a existence as a rock star. When the two return to their new home after the crash into the cave, Tim's attitude and behavior changed drastically. If he had previously been frustrated by his role in the relationship, his need to be with Millie in the truest sense of the word becomes all -encompassing overnight.
A saber saw at the right time
As an approach, we are always a bit ahead of the two from this point and have already guessed to a certain extent, to which the story may amount to. Which is also due to the fact that at the beginning of the film, two dogs already fall into the same hole – and we see what happens to them afterwards. Nevertheless (or precisely because of this) the whole thing continues to put you in a lot of fun. It is simply damn entertaining to watch when and how the main characters notice what happens to them – and how they deal with it, what effect this has on their relationship.
It already has something tragicomic, in which Dave Franco, the scenario, who was still very credibly played, can be sorry for us. In particular, a short sexual intermezzo on a school toilet and a motorized saber saw in the house, which is practically left behind by the previous tenant, are unforgettable in this regard. The meta element that Franco and Brie are also a couple in real life makes the plot interesting on an additional level-a fact that Shanks plays consciously here.

After the liberation from the cave, Tim and Millie make disturbing physical changes.
In addition, the filmmaker leaves us in the dark for a long time about some connections and especially a third figure: the Jamie, which was wonderfully multi -layered by Damon Herriman (“Better Man”). Millie's teacher colleague lives next door – and you can never be sure of what it actually intends to do and what its function within the story could be. Is Jamie really just a helpful neighbor? Perhaps he is trying to take care of Millie? Or is he even unpleasant in the shield?
A completely conclusive and exhaustive explanation of the supernatural phenomenon in the center of the film is not (of course) delivered. That may sound frustrating at first, but is completely okay and maybe even better. Because “Together – Inseparable” also feels so pleasantly closed thanks to its excellently implemented and served final spins. The closer information about what is really going on in the hole in the wilderness and how it could happen, Michael Shanks can then submit in a sequel (or prequel?). Or he just lets it stay.
Conclusion: In the end, everyone has to decide for themselves whether “Together – inseparable” is more of an argument for or against couple relationships. What is out of the question, on the other hand: the film offers areinen bodyhorror, which already hurts while watching, but is still enormous fun.
