Three dead in Wisconsin school shooting, including shooter: police

Authorities in Madison, Wisconsin, are investigating a shooting at a Christian school in the city where 3 deaths and several injuries were reported. The person responsible died.

A young student killed two people at a school in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday before police found him dead as well, authorities reported.

Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes did not provide details about the victims, but said several people were injured at Escuela Cristiana Vida Abundante (Abundant Life Christian School). Police initially reported that five people had died.

At least six other people were injured and taken to area hospitals. Also that there were children among the dead and injured and the injuries ranged from minor to very serious.

Video posted on social media from the scene showed a massive emergency response, including police vehicles, ambulances and firefighters.

There were no details on who was responsible for the shooting.

The police closed all the streets around the school. Officers from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) arrived at the scene to assist local authorities.

In a statement, the White House said President Joe Biden was briefed about the shooting and officials were in contact with local authorities to provide support.

The school is nondenominational, that is, it is not associated with a specific religious denomination.

Gun control and school safety have become important political and social issues in the United States, where the number of school shootings has grown sharply in recent years.

According to the K-12 School Shooting Database website, there have been 322 school shootings in the United States this year. According to this database, this is the second year with the highest number of shootings since 1966, only surpassed by the 349 last year.
