Reboot or remake? In any case, great fun in the tried and tested manner and a Neeson in top form await us.
If there has ever been a worthy chaos cop, it was clearly Lt. Frank Drebin – played by the unforgettable Leslie Nielsen. It was unthinkable for a long time that a successor is also possible, but now one is actually found, and “the naked cannon” continues because Liam Neeson has been explained to Drebin's son – so the chaos is in the family (and be honest: the names of the two actors sound really similar).
Neeson is always good for surprises: it was only at the advanced age he became an action hero. He keeps the action on his even older days, but changes the genre again by showing himself from his funny side. Previously, comedies were in short supply in Neeson's list of works-at most he looked at Cameo appearances in “Anchorman-the legend returns” or “Ted 2” and had only a major role in “A Million Ways to the in the West” and “Men in Black: International”.

Gags, gags, gags
We get to know Drebin half-naked: After he has gained access to the cash register to prevent a bank robbery in little girl cladding and the evil guys overwhelmed, he is in mini skirt and slip. Later he gets closer to the film title because he lands in the middle of a sports arena.
The old cliché of the real cop, which can always be found with a coffee mug in hand, is taken here very literally and used for a running gag. But this gag can run that quickly so as not to be obtained by all the other gags that come to us practically every second – and they can be really deep, but also just wonderfully silly or very evil and dark. And of course, a number of well -known film scenes are moved through the cocoa in a tried and tested manner (although “the naked cannon” does not stop at your own past).
Is that a reboot or a remake? The latter speaks that many motifs of the original film have been re -reached: Instead of Priscilla Presley, Pamela Anderson is now called, people are again mentally influenced by an invention and a large sporting event also takes place at the final. So there is a method behind the madness, but it remains quite independent.

OJ Simpson? No thanks!
Neeson jokes with pams of active support. As soon as she has established herself as a character actress thanks to “The Last Showgirl”, she throws all the seriousness overboard again and shows how strange she can be (and as a jazzy night club singer you would also be hired from the spot).
But not everyone was lucky with their role: If you get a partner in front of the stature of a Paul Walter Hauser, you should definitely use it more, which is unfortunately not the case here. He would have been happy about more opportunity to turn around, and Neeson would have liked to stole a few gags. After all, there is a serious opponent: Danny Huston in the form of a tech mogul that has caught a diabolical plan to plunge humanity into chaos.
The new actors also know what they guilty of their predecessors: In the police station there are pictures of all the former famous cops and their descendants like to speak to them. Frank Jr. turns to Frank Sr. and his partner to his daddy Captain Ed Hocken (Robert Kennedy); But when a black colleague wants to become nostalgic in front of the photo of Detective Nordberg, he lets it stay again because OJ Simpson is not the right man to trigger such a reaction. For this, our belief in soul migration is strengthened, and at the crucial moment Drebin Sr. comes to his son in a completely different form.

Toxed with opening credits and eye test
And of course the gags are not over with a clamping one: Instead, an angry Drebin turns directly to us viewers, later he serenaded his beloved Beth and finally another singer comes into the picture that is already known from the first “naked cannon”. And because everything is turned upside down, even the opening credits of the original runs as part of the credits. Oh yes, you can also save yourself a visit to the ophthalmologist with this film because a eye test has been smuggled into the end of credits.
Incidentally, there is a sugar-free “naked cannon” for the first time: director David Zucker and his brother Jerry are no longer involved in this reboot. In addition, the film is short and good – like the original from 1988: after 85 minutes the fun sounds again. But hopefully the laugh with Liam Neeson won't take us because he has found a future parade role here.
