In this real adaptation, not only the computer dwarfs interfere, but contemporary changes are too hard-working.
It all started with this fairy tale – not for the Brothers Grimm, but for Walt Disney, because in 1937 he released the first animated after -full feature film with “Snow White”, which should follow many more. You can call it the most important animated film ever without exaggeration. No wonder that so far you have left your fingers from a remake. If a real film adaptation appears almost 90 years later, this not only caused approval, but even offered a number of criticisms and controversy long before the theatrical release.

Three critical voices in advance
I only emphasize the three most important allegations: The new Snow White Rachel Zegler (famous by Spielberg's “West Side Story” remake) found the original film thematically out of date: she did not want the fairy tale princess to be completely passive and had to be saved by a man. For this, she promptly received the accusation of representing an anti-feminist attitude.
“Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage, on the other hand, had accused the project of hypocrisy because one wanted to show up by the casting of a Latina actress in the leading role, but then still a “damn backward story over seven dwarfs who live together in a cave”.
Finally, the son of the then director David Hand criticized the completely different concept in an interview and did not save on violent words that culminated in the remark: “Walt Disney would turn around in the grave.” So what about the new “Snow White” version-keep joy or disappointment with the upper hand?

Iconic scenes and a lot of new
Director Marc Webb could have made the task easy and just as many of the classic scenes that have burned themselves into our memory would have to take over unchanged – such as the gigantic shadows of the dwarfs on a rock wall, the diamond in front of Dopey's eye, animals in Schneewittchen's accompaniment, the uncanny trees in the forest or the mask face in the magic mirror. We will actually find all of this again, but the new one predominates and throughout this Snow White hardly has anything to do with the template. This also applies musically: Jeff Morrow's unforgettable original soundtrack was enriched by new songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, but there are no sparkling melodies among these compositions.

Robin Hood in the dwarf forest
For a real prince we will look in vain here. Instead, we meet a royal resistance fighter who, as Robin Hood in the dwarf forest, gives up his supporters if he is not exactly entering the palace as a noble thief to steal potatoes. With this new figure, a work like “Snow White and the Huntsman” has apparently left traces – but of course it never gets really bloody.
A mystery remains why you have chosen CGI dwarfs and not used real actors, where it is a real film. It gets even stranger even more strange, as soon as a small -scale actor appears in a supporting role – as if it had been a pure alibi function from Disney. And should you be with the computer gnomes despite it have made friends, a real shock awaits us: if dopey aka. Seppl suddenly finds his voice, it is about as unbelievable as if Harpo Marx (his actual model) suddenly get rid of.

Zegler gets a lot more to do
Zegler is not entirely wrong with her criticism of the passive girl: After the Snow White from 1937 was kissed wake up by the prince at the end, she has nothing more to do than swing on his horse and to say goodbye to the dwarfs before we lose sight of them. This already worked as a rather lovelessly pounded embarrassment finale.
In 2025 everything is different: after all, the girl can also be brought to new life through the kiss of real love – but then it starts with the changes. Finally, there is still a takeover of power in the kingdom without a fight. Equipped with vocals and nice words, Snow White of the bad stepmother counteracts and proves that the film rightly bears its name in the title. The fate of the evil queen is also a different.
General -overhauled fairy tales
The classic Snow White was thus spiced up and overhauled in a contemporary manner – but fairy tales don't like that. Of course, the girl is now redeemed from her passivity and becomes the right folk hero or even a superstar risen by the dead (Oh, Jesus!), But we have far away from the original magic of Disney original. The radiant Rachel Zegler and a pleasing evil Gal Gadot do their best, but the story turns out to be plenty of sterile. At least the CGI dwarfs should have been replaced by real people.
Of course, the fateful fruit deserves special emphasis: it appears so large and red and beautiful and juicy that each of us would also have bitten into it immediately. After all, there was a safe alternative for visitors to the press demonstration, because everyone was allowed to take a harmless apple.
