Several fires continue to check firefighters in southern California, which battle for querying several fires amid favorable climatic conditions for the expansion of the flames.
Firefighters from southern California continued to face multiple fires on Thursday in the middle of strong winds and dry weather conditions.
The Hughes fire in the mountains northwest of Los Angeles, near Lake Castaic, exploded on Wednesday, which led the authorities to issue evacuation orders for more than 50,000 people. Health notices have been published by smoke, dust and ashes dragged by the wind for areas near the incident.
“Smoke and ashes can damage everyone, even those who are healthy,” Dr. Muntu Davis, a health official at Los Angeles County, said in a statement.
The Laguna fire in Ventura County resulted in evacuation orders for the State University of California Channel Islands and Glen University, but the orders were reduced to warnings on Thursday afternoon.
The evacuation warning for the fire in Sepulveda Boulevard, near the 405 interest late on Wednesday, rose after the firefighters stopped the progress of the fire after he had burned less than a square kilometer.
The US storm prediction center said Thursday that the “very strong” winds from the Santa Ana coast will continue in southern California with bursts that could reach up to 105 km/h in some mountainous chains.
The winds, combined with the “very low humidity and the previous dry conditions” of the southern California, led the center to maintain a critical fire risk alert for Thursday and a high weather perspective for Friday.
Firefighters received help to combat the Hughes fire with water discharges from helicopters during the night. The fire, northwest of Los Angeles, extended until an area of more than 41 square kilometers near the recreational area of Lake Castaic.
Fire containment increased to 24 %, from approximately 14 % reported early.
There is the possibility of a little relief in the next few days. The National Meteorological Service said that some rains are expected in the area from Saturday.
Meteorologists wait until a centimeter of rain in much of the Los Angeles area, while localized electric storms could bring even more rain in limited places. The potential of these storms has caused concerns about the possibility of landslides, with debris flowing through mountainous areas that have been burned for several weeks of forest fires.
In addition to the Hughes fire, the teams are still fighting the Palisades fire on the western side of Los Angeles and the Eaton fire in the hills north of the city. The Palisades fire, 95 square kilometers, is contained in 70 %, while Eaton, 56 square kilometers, is contained in 95 %, according to file officials.
The fires that exploded in southern California on January 7 have killed at least 28 people and destroyed approximately 16,000 buildings. The dead number is expected to increase as emergency workers review the ashes.
The governor of California, Gavin Newsom, announced Thursday that there will be mortgage relief available for the owners of damaged or destroyed properties in the fires.
Almost 300 banks, credit cooperatives and lenders and suppliers of mortgage services authorized by the State have committed to the 90 -day tolerance of the mortgage payments.
“We are working in close collaboration with the Office of Governor Newsom … to ensure that the inhabitants of southern California can concentrate on rebuilding their lives without the additional burden of financial concerns,” said Scott Simpson, president and executive director of California & Nevada Credit Union Leagues.
Newsom said the indulgence “helps to provide survivors with time and relief to address their immediate needs, instead of worrying about paying the mortgage invoices.”
There will be another type of help available, said the governor's office in a statement, but gave no more details.
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, is expected to criticize the response to the fire, trip to Los Angeles on Friday.
