Marco Rubio is sworn in as US Secretary of State with a message in Spanish

The United States has a new secretary of the State Department: Marco Rubio, of Cuban descent, became the first Hispanic to be confirmed for that position in the country's history. Upon being sworn into his new position, the former senator offered a message in Spanish.

Marco Rubio assumed the position of secretary of the United States Department of State on Tuesday after being unanimously confirmed by the Senate, becoming the first Hispanic to hold the position.

Rubio was sworn in at a ceremony in Washington alongside Vice President JD Vance, and in the company of his wife and four children. He is the first in President Donald Trump's cabinet to be confirmed in his position.

During the brief ceremony, the new Secretary of State took a moment to send a message of thanks in Spanish to his family. “I want to thank God, my family, my family that is not here with us today, my parents who came to this country in 1956 and the purpose of their life was for us to live the dreams that we did not were possible for them,” Rubio said.

The Senate endorsed Rubio by 99 votes in favor and none against, days after he successfully passed his confirmation hearing. The 53-year-old veteran politician, a harsh critic of China and a defender of Israel, has also promoted tough measures against the government of Cuba and its allies, as well as the Venezuelan government.

Vance, for his part, assured that Rubio is one of his “favorite people in Washington. He is the son of Cuban immigrants in this country. He grew up in a very humble environment, but he has an incredibly deep love for our nation.”

The new Secretary of State reiterated that he would support President Trump in advancing his foreign policy priorities.promoting the national interest of this country.”

“President Trump made it very clear that everything we do, and this is true in government, but especially in the State Department, everything we do must be justified by the answer to one of three questions: Does it make us stronger? ? Does it make us safer? And does it make us more prosperous?” he added.

Rubio concluded his message in Spanish by assuring that “it is an incredible honor to be the Secretary of State of the most powerful and good country in the history of all humanity.”
