Man beats two homeless people to death in Miami in 'unprovoked' attack, police say

A man beats two homeless people to death in Miami in an “unprovoked” attack, according to police statements. The events occurred in the center of the city.

A man armed with a stick killed two people in Miami in an “unprovoked” attack on four homeless people, police reported. The suspect was arrested after the attacks, which took place in the early hours of Thursday.

A call to the 911 emergency number shortly after 6 a.m. alerted authorities to what they said was a 30-year-old man armed with a stick, beating people living on the streets of Miami.

Miami Police Chief Manny Morales told reporters Thursday that the suspect first punched a man near a downtown train station before heading down the street and attacking another homeless man. He later attacked another homeless couple on the other side of the street, Morales said.

Police responded “within seconds” of receiving the emergency call, Morales said, chasing the suspect and apprehending him after he tried to flee.

“This is a horrendous incident,” Morales said. “Officers on the scene and the Miami Police Department are horrified by this display of unprovoked violence.”

Authorities have not yet released the suspect's name as they continue their investigation, assuring that the attacker has no local criminal record but has had some “minor encounters with police” in New York.
