A republican legislator introduced a project to the US Congress with which he seeks that the 100 dollars have a photo of President Donald Trump. It is currently Benjamin Franklin, one of the “founding parents of the nation”, who appears in the ticket.
A new bill presented to the United States Congress seeks to change the image that currently appears on the 100 dollars ticket for a photo of President Donald Trump.
The legislation was introduced by the Republican representative of Texas, Brandon Gill, who in written communication said that “no one has done more to bring to the United States to the golden age than President Trump. Presenting it in the 100 dollars ticket is a small way to honor everything he will achieve in the next four years.”
Public records show that the bill was presented on March 3 under the name “HR1790 – to demand that $ 100 bills include a portrait of Donald J. Trump and for other purposes.” That same day he referred to the Financial Services Commission of the House of Representatives.
Inventor Benjamin Franklin, one of the “founding parents of the nation”, appears on the 100 dollars since it was printed for the first time in 1914.
Since then, the design has changed four times to add security characteristics. However, he has always maintained the image of Franklin.
Benjamin Franklin's historical society describes that its “key performance in the construction of the nation” was what led it to the US currency. “He was the most important founding father, the oldest and the one who contributed the most to the cause of independence,” the organization establishes on its official page.
Franklin was also one of the signatories of the Constitution.
Who decides the image that appears in the tickets?
The Secretary of the Treasury is the person who has a final decision on the faces that appear in each ticket. However, Title 31 of the US Code establishes that “only the portrait of a deceased person can appear in the currency and values of the United States.”
In addition to Franklin, the tickets that are in circulation in the United States have the images of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Alexander Hamilton, Andrew Jackson and Ulysses Grant.
The 100 dollars ticket is the highest value that is in circulation in the country.
Texas Troy Nehls Republican congressmen and Lauren Bobert in Colorado are the two copatrochinters of this project.
The legislation establishes that the Secretary of the Treasury should publish the preliminary design of the 100 dollars bill with the image of President Trump no later than December 31, 2026, and that the tickets begin to be circulated after December 31, 2028.
In the US, to be approved, a bill requires being approved in the House of Representatives and the Senate, and then being signed by the president himself.
