Argentine President Javier Milei will meet next week with the US president-elect Donald Trump.
The meeting will take place at the Mar-a-Lago resort owned by the president-elect in Palm Beach, Florida, he told Reuters a spokesperson for the Argentine government.
Milei, a 54-year-old ultra-liberal president who came to power in December 2023has been a fervent follower of the United States political line. The Argentine president has constantly expressed his support for Republican Donald Trump.
After Trump's resounding victory over US Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday, Milei sent a message -also on video and in English- through his accounts on X and TikTok to the Republican: “Congratulations on your formidable electoral victory. Now, Make America Great Again. He knows that he can count on Argentina to carry out his task. Successes and blessings.”
On his trip to American soil, the Argentine president will also meet with Elon Musk, executive president of Tesla and Space X, and a close collaborator of the Trump campaign until the day of his victory.
At the end of last September Milei and Musk held an important meeting in New York, according to the Argentine Government in a statement in which he detailed that both spoke, among other topics, about “the deregulation process that is being carried out in the country and the path that Argentina is taking in its return to normality.”
Trump, for his part, has presented Milei as a statesman close to his economic policy of tax cuts and adjustments to government structures. At the Conservative Action Political Conference that met in Washington last February, Trump especially greeted Milei, pointing out him as “a great man, he is MAGA, Make Argentina Great Again.” You can do it well. Javier Milei. Thank you Milei, thank you very much, it is a great honor to have you here,” according to the digital newspaper Infobae.
The event was also attended by the president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, the Brazilian federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro and Santiago Abascal, Spanish politician and leader of the VOX party.
Between November 14 and 16, the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) will be held in Mar-a-Lago, so the Argentine president is expected to attend the meetings held there.
