And Dangerous Minds Is Pretty Good

“This TV show about an ex-Marine teacher with a tough class is more realistic than the movie. Instead of persuading the students in her class to behave by giving them Butterfingers and Baby Ruths, the teacher (played by Annie Potts) gives them sympathy and attitude. She shows them that not all teachers are ready to give up so easily, and treats them as equals.
When a child of one of the students is put into social services, the teacher helps to get a babysitter and offers her a home so the girl can keep her child. When one of the students is arrested for a crime he did not commit, she is willing to come to his defense instead of just allowing the police to take him away.
In between, they have funky music and Coolio as a cool counselor.
This is the kind of stuff that makes “Dangerous Minds” the TVshow to see on ABC this fall.”
