In last year's FSK-18 surprise hit “The Beekeeper”, Jason Statham, as Adam Clay, left his violent past behind as an elite fighters of a powerful secret organization to work as a beekeeper instead. But then after the death of his landlord, he falls into old patterns again: Actually, he only wants to find a few telephone fraudsters, just to fight and shoot through a large -scale conspiracy instead, which finally even reaches up to the President of the United States. A year later, the first right-FSK-18 actioner follows “A Working Man“, Re-staged by” Heart from Stahl “director David Ayer: Jason Statham, as Levon Cade, has left his violent past as an elite fighters of a British military unit to work on the construction instead in Chicago.
But then after the kidnapping of Jenny (Arianna Rivas), the daughter of his boss Joe (Michael Peña), he falls back into old patterns: Actually, he only wants to bring the hardworking college student back only to beat and shoot through a large-scale conspiracy, which ultimately not only calls the entire Russian mafia, but also other criminal organizations. “A Working Man” is almost “The Beekeeper”, but on Ketamine – or optionally “John Wick 1 – 3”, compresses in a single, through and through beered film. In any case, it is all so much about that you just have to love it as a Statham fan-while most others will only recognize hyperbrutal bullshit in “A Working Man”.

In “A Working Man” Jason Statham is a friendly, helpful, kind-hearted guy-unless you get him crooked, then he immediately switches to the FSK-18 mode!
Relatively early in “A Working Man”, Cades old military buddy Gunny Leffty (“Stranger Things” sheriff David Harbor) is introduced: It is blind, lives in a hut in the forest-and can handle arrow and bow very well despite its disability. Actually a clear thing that he gave the title Working man will help with his one-man campaign at some point. But breath cake – and it would also be unfair: the complete Russian mafia including a marauding motorcycle gangs and corrupt cops does not have a chance against it The Stath. Incidentally, he is already 57 years old in real life, but at least so far there is no detriment to the credibility of his brutal punch.
Cade also fights for the right of access with his mother's suicide with her grandfather Dr. Jordan Roth (Richard Heap) living little daughter Merry (Isla Gie), who is to be further restricted due to an untreated post -traumatic stress disorder. But in the end, the war veteran, which was defeated by constant setbacks, then reaches the psychological depth of John Rambo in parts 2 and 3 – from real trauma as in the first “Rambo”, David Ayer will keep his fingers his fingers. The “A Working Man” script of none other than Sylvester Stallone personally comes, who actually wanted to make a television series from the underlying book series by Chuck Dixon. But at least so there is a chance to make a few more Levon Cade films-there would be more than enough novels!
Descent into rabbit construction
Relative at the beginning, Dr. Roth a costume party in his garden – and only to make it even more difficult Cade to spend his time with his daughter, which is limited to a few hours a week. He himself reminds of the crazy hatter from “Alice in Wonderland” – and there are also isolated allusions to Lewis Carroll's classic. In fact, the search for the kidnapped young woman is somehow a case in the rabbit building: hardly anything looks like the real world, everything is suddenly at least five numbers-from the leader of the motorcycle club, which crouches on a “Game of Thrones”-like throne from exhaust pipes, over which two mafia henchmen in coordinated, gold-embroidered pyjamas in one remote, illegal casino, which seems like a mix of “Eyes Wide Shut” and “Marie Antoinette” cosplay.
It sometimes feels almost as if it were all a single big extravagant masked ball, through which the down -to -earth foreman pushing himself through. And how he does this: waterboarding, head shots, severed throats – and all without ever forgiven. Jason Statham is once again a man-on-miss mission, for which only one goal counts-and that, even if the mafia threatens his family, thinks about it at most for a second, maybe thinking about it. He once promised Jenny to keep her back on her, so he does it too!

For Cade it is clear: If he starts looking for Jenny (Arianna Rivas), he will never stop before he has found it!
A few weeks ago, this “A Working Man”, as the ultimate crusade of a simple, principal man against all of these exuberant-nihilist decadence, might have been through as a potential Maga favorite-especially since Sylvester Stallone was not only recently appointed Hollywood “ambassador”, but also compared Donald Trump with George Washington and Jesus. But since then the President has explained the war to his own veterans and found a new bus buddy in Wladimir Putin-at least in this regard, “A Working Man” with his PTBS protagonist and the Russian Bad Guys is probably a little late …
Conclusion: As far as rustling brainless action is concerned, it is probably not much better. Quasi the quintessential Jason-Statham triist-regardless of whether this is a little inherently good or bad. Say: If you liked “The Beekeeper”, you will love “A Working Man”! Anyone who couldn't miss “The Beekeeper” will probably despise “A Working Man”!
