Lou Strenger a psychotherapist. The film was shot in the real hospital during the ongoing company.
The German health system at the limit – this bitter reality forms the core of the new ARD Medical series “David and Goliath”that can be seen in film Wednesday from September 24th. Actress Lou Strenger (born 1992) embodies psychotherapist Dina Schwarz, who takes over an almost impossible mission: the psychosocial support of 4,000 clinic employees in the fictional Essen Ruhr Clinic.
The starting situation could hardly be more dramatic. After an attempted suicide from intensive care nurse Nathan Freye (Tristan Seith), clinic chief Dr. Veronika Jelinek (Ulrike C. Tscharre) with a typical management decision: just do not attract attention, keep the company going. The fact that your employees literally go on the gums is declared a minor matter.
When helpers need help themselves
“Often exactly those who do their best for the well -being of the patients to pay attention to their own mental health every day,” the WDR summarizes the central theme. Dina Schwarz is supposed to fill this gap – but her good intentions bounce off hard realities. The staff does not want help, structural changes are out of the question.
Lou Strenger, who went through therapeutic training in parallel to her work at the theater for four years, has authentic experiences. “Dina is not a classic therapist in many ways and may not act as conformed to one or the other,” explains the actress. The figure embodies the eternal conflict between idealism and pragmatism.
Rededuelle at high speed
The meeting with clinic chief Jelinek becomes particularly exciting. Ulrike C. Tscharre (53) describes the collaboration with Lou Strenger as a “wonderful duel” with “incredibly good feeling for timing”. The actress has an understanding of her figure, which is once nice and accessible, then repellent and distant: “I don't feel that Ms. Jelinek fluctuates back and forth. She has difficult decisions and has to work differently in her job than, for example, Dina Schwarz.”
Actor Carlo Ljubek (49) completes as Dr. Robert Schultholz the main cast. His figure embodies the classic medical type: “In a culture in which performance and perseverance count more than openness and self-care, vulnerability appears like a flaw,” analyzes the actor.
Authenticity through real hospital backdrop
The production company Bantry Bay Productions ventured a special experiment: filming took place in a real hospital during the current operation. This authenticity shapes the series sustainably. “It was particularly moving to get to know the people who worked there,” reports Carlo Ljubek. “Despite their extremely demanding everyday life, they met us with great openness.”
The series deliberately shows no miracles or romanticized everyday hospital life. Instead, she takes a ruthless view of a system under constant stress. If Dr. At the same time, Schultwood has to perform professional performance and cope with his divorce, this reflects the reality of many doctors.
