“A Minecraft Film” criticism: pixelated and playful

The film version for the best -selling video game ever is fun, but is far from being perfect.

In the best case, you will be amazed in this game world and in the worst you feel the film as a block on the leg. Who knows, maybe we will not only find out how to build something together, but even bride. Minecraftbeer would definitely fill a gap in the market-and we may also get to know a few new craft expressions.

In any case, the computer game of the Swedish programmer Markus “Notch” Petersson has long since developed from indie hit to the world success, was included in the game collection of the Museum of Modern Art, fans gathered at Minecraft Convention or serves in school lessons to impart knowledge (even as a compulsory subject in a Swedish school). Late, but yet, is now “a Minecraft film” by director Jared Hess.

Interchangeable compulsory program

The four Outsider Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Jason Momoa with Hair and beard costume that takes some getting used to), Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers) and Dawn (Danielle Brooks) are put into a so -called “upper world” full of components, where – apart from Moving zombies and aggressive pigs – especially the professional “Crafter” Steve (Jack Black). It is clear that this actor should not be missing-it is not only fully bearded, but also fully motivated when it comes to participating in a gaming adaptation.

In recent years he has proven this with works such as “Borderlands”, “The Super Mario Bros. Film” or the two new “Jumanji” parts. Therefore, he also strictly draws his compulsory program here, which is to be funny and hyperactive-not to forget the vocal deposits. However, this is so interchangeable that one could not say exactly whether we are in “Jumanji 3” or rather Minecraft.

Black and Momoa as a men's sandwich

Something like a story is actually told, but of course it doesn't matter. The fact that the individual characters are given problems and development opportunities can also be seen as a good will – convincingly or even emotionally stirring. It is enough to know that a pig witch wants to bring great darkening over the upper world and our five game heroes want to prevent this.

What really matters is the desire to start a wild ride in order to let it go properly-and you can understand that literally, since not only the creeper block monsters explode. Feuerkraft, wolf pack, metal monster and self -made weapons make the task easier. The craziest moment is probably reached as soon as Momoa sails through the air in a deep hug with Jack Back; And if the two form a men's sandwich, it is finally over with the youth approval from 6.

Desire for interactivity

I do not dare to decide whether this film accelerates the heartbeat of Minecraftern because I myself do not belong to this genus. But one thing seems relatively logical to me: of all things a game that wants to stimulate creativity is poorly served with a straight -torn film history. In any case, interactivity would have been the order of the day: as a spectator, we would have liked to intervene in the action and had made decisions. Thus, the Minecraft project with a streaming provider should have been much better off.

We have not experienced that with the Minecraftbeer, but I don't give up hope – maybe you have to release a bonus level or expect a second part.
