The FBI adds to the United States University University in the Dominican Republic

The young Sudiksha Konanki, citizen of India, but US resident, disappeared last week in a beach in front of the Riu República hotel, in Punta Cana. The Dominican President expressed concern about the case.

The FBI joined the search for a 20 -year -old student from Pittsburgh University who disappeared almost a week ago while vacationing in the Dominican tourist town of Punta Cana, authorities reported Tuesday.

The Dominican Police indicated that he conducts new interviews with the people who were with Sudiksha Konanki before disappearing in the early hours of March 6, on a beach in front of the Riu Republic hotel.

Konanki, citizen of India, is a permanent resident of the United States and lives in Chantilly, Virginia, according to the police station in Loudoun.

The hotel declared in a statement that Konanki's disappearance coincided with an energy cut that made several guests go to the beach, where he was last seen.

Dominican President Luis Abinader told reporters that he lamented the situation.

“We are worried,” he said Monday at his weekly meeting with the press. “All government agencies are looking for (…) the last information we have of one of them, of the last person with the young woman, which says according to the reports, is that a wave hit them while they were on the beach.”

Abinader also defended the safety of tourists in the Dominican Republic. “The country receives more than 11 million visitors a year,” he said, adding that problems rarely arise.

Konanki's parents, Subbarayudu and Sreedevi, flew to Punta Cana with two family friends after their disappearance was reported and have asked the authorities to expand the investigation.

Her father said that she and five university companions traveled to the Dominican Republic on March 3.
