Trump administration orders agencies to prepare plan for mass layoffs of federal workers

Federal agencies must prepare plans to “significantly” reduce their workforce, according to a memorandum sent by the administration of the US President Donald Trump.

The administration of the US president, Donald Trump, ordered federal agencies to develop plans to initiate a “significant reduction” of his templates, according to a memorandum.

The directive indicates that each agency must submit its proposals before March 13. The cuts would not only imply the dismissal of employees, but would eliminate the positions completely, in what could be the principle of a broad restructuring of the US government.

“The federal government is expensive, inefficient and deeply indebted,” says Russell Vought memorandum, director of the White House Administration and Budget Office, and Charles Ezell, interim director of the Office of Federal Government of the United States Federal Government, which functions as a human resources agency.

“At the same time, it is not producing results for the American public,” continues the text.

Trump had already advanced his intentions to reduce the magnitude of the government in an executive order that he signed with Elon Musk, who advises the president about government restructuring. Some departments have already begun this process.

The General Services Administration, which manages federal real estate, informed employees on Monday that a reduction of personnel and that would do “everything possible to make their departure is fair and dignified.”

The memorandum was published while Trump led the first meeting of the cabinet of his second mandate, in which Musk also participated, who supervises the so -called government efficiency department, known as Doge.

The White House Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, told reporters that “all cabinet secretaries take the advice and direction of Doge.”

“They will provide updates about their efforts, and will also provide updates on what they are doing in their agencies in terms of policies and implementation of the promises that the president made in the campaign,” Leavitt said.
