US orders to prioritize cartels; Sheinbaum asks to start from US territory

Before an order from the US Secretary of Justice, PAM Bondi, to prioritize the elimination of organized crime cartels, President Claudia Sheinbaum insisted that these tasks should begin through the US territory and was open to collaboration.

The new Secretary of Justice of the United States, PAM Bondi, ordered to prioritize the “total elimination” of organized crime cartels, after which the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, asked Washington on Friday to start the actions against these groups from the own American territory.

“They begin for their country, of course we are going to coordinate, to collaborate, but as I said on February 5, never subordination, or interference. They have a lot to do in the US, ”said the president at her usual morning conference.

The US Department of Justice published a memorandum On Thursday where Bondi asked to review national and anti -narcotics security strategies to achieve rapid eradication of all transnational criminal cartels and organizations.

This communication is in tune with the administration policies of President Donald Trump, who signed an executive order on his first day in the position that declared drug cartels as terrorist organizations.

“We must do more than trying to mitigate the enormous damage that these groups cause in the United States,” insists the Memo, where it is indicated to take advantage of the resources of the Department of Justice and empower prosecutors to eliminate cartels threats.

The Mexican president on the other hand was open to bilateral cooperation, as long as national sovereignty is respected. “There is an important part that they have to do in their own country,” he reiterated.

“Who sells the drug in the US cities that have caused so much tragedy? Where does the money for sale go? How is it that in Mexico there are weapons for the exclusive use of the US Army? Who sold them? How did they get to our country? ”He questioned.

Sheinbaum commented that Bondi's new order on the cartels is very general and said he will wait to see how these new priorities are going to translate into concrete actions, because his government's permits are needed in the event that US agents seek to enter To the Mexican territory, he said.

Updated numbers of deportations to Mexico

The Mexican president also updated on the number of migrants received on deportation flights from the US.

Sheinbaum reported that since January 20 – the presentation of President Trump – 10,964 deported people have arrived, of them 8,425 are Mexican citizens and 2,539 of other nationalities.

The president said that in these last cases, her Mexican government will seek to collaborate for her return. “We accompany you to go to their countries of origin,” he said

“Mexico's flights have left to Honduras, yesterday a flight came out, they also go by land transport, it's voluntary, they remember,” said Sheinbaum.
