Prisco Serrano of Manual Arts High School was working at the LA Youth office one day after school when the Rodney King verdict was announced. As people began to riot and burn buildings, a group of more than 10 young people drove down Wilshire Blvd. in several vehicles. They stopped just opposite the LA Youth office and began to break the windows of the former May Co. at Wilshire and Fairfax (photo at left). Prisco grabbed a camera and began to document the incident from the office window.
When police sirens wailed, most of the youth drove away, but a few were caught and handcuffed by the police.
Prisco has since graduated from USC (after majoring in math and Spanish) and now works at the LA Youth office permanently as office manager.”
