“First, recognize that you have been through hard times before, and have made it through. You may have coping skills that you haven’t recognized, advised psychotherapist Karen Khaleghi.
Secondly, try to get involved in sports or physical activity. Studies show that teens, especially girls, involved in sports have less depression and are less likely to get pregnant or drop out of school. Sports force you to get involved in something outside yourself. When a certain level of physical activity is reached, a biochemical change occurs and your body releases endorphins (what athletes describe as a rush).
Thirdly, talk to someone about what’s going on, preferably someone older or more mature. Reach out to a friend, relative, parent or counselor.”
