1. Just do it. Doctors have heard it all before. Would you rather feel embarrassed or have your health at stake?
2. If you don’t want your parents to know, just ask them to leave the room.
3. Don’t get paranoid thinking that your doctor will tell everyone about your problems. Remember that you have doctor-patient confidentiality.
4. Before you go to the doctor, make a list of your questions so that you don’t forget anything and the visit can go faster.
5. If you really feel uncomfortable about talking to your doctor, there are clinics you can visit and help lines you can call that may be able to help you. That way you’ll have more anonymity, especially if you’re on the phone.
