A glossary of skater terms.
deck: the wood on a skateboard where the skater stands
heel flip: The board flips horizontally and then you land on it.
frontside, nose-slide shuvit-out: an ollie* where you slide on the platform with the front of the board. Your back is facing the direction you travel. Once you’re sliding, you spin the board with your back foot and land.
ollie: when a skater jumps up in the air on his or her board, then lands
one time: police. They work full-time, as opposed to security guards, who are referred to as “half-time.”
nollie kick flip: Using your front foot, you snap the board and you use the back foot to flip it.
pound: an updated hand gesture where you ball up your fist and hit the top of each other’s hand
plank or platform: a solid wood or concrete edge that skaters slide or grind on as they complete certain tricks
