L.A. Youth surveyed 521 of our readers with a political poll in 1999. These are some of the issues they cared about:
81 percent think the government should make more money available for college financial aid.
52 percent think it’s too easy to get guns.
76 percent think high school teachers should have a university degree in the subjects they teach.
70 percent think gays, lesbians and bisexuals deserve the same protection from harassment as other minority groups.
Two political poll participants were randomly chosen to receive $50 and a copy of our anthology, Tell It Like It Is. They are Jose Merlos, Hawthorne HS and Ayesha Howard, Dominguez HS.
