“John Madden does it, Jimmy Johnson did it and ESPN does it all the time. It’s football season and the picks and predictions are in except for mine. So here they are starting with the National Football Conference.
Green Bay Packers The Packs are back in their green and gold. They are stacked with offensive power. Brett Favre is cool. They’ll go to the Superbowl and win it. 11-5.
Dallas Cowboys The Cowboys have their work cut out for them. They’ll be missing Michael Irvin for his drug thing. I think the Cowboys will replace him with Deion Sanders. Sanders is a exceptional player but he can’t take a hit. I see Troy Aikman being sidelined with injuries throughout the season. If that happens, he might retire. Emmit Smith is their most valuable player, but the Cowboys won’t go to the Superbowl. 12-4
San Francisco 49ers The Niners are going to have an explosive season led by Jerry Rice, Steve Young and a host of other young talent. Look to see a smarter and more conditioned team. This will be the end of the Niner dynasty because all of the key players are getting old. 10-6
Philadelphia Eagles Don’t look for anything special to come out of here this year. Their highlight was beating the Cowboys last year. But quarterback Rodney Pete proved that he can start. They will have an okay season with Rodney Pete. 10-6
Detroit Lions The Lions are one of the most underrated teams in the NFC. Their running game is awesome and their passing game is flawless. 10-6
Washington Redskins They got Heath Shuler as quarterback but they don’t have any help. Don’t look for them to do anything exciting on the field, 9-7
Chicago Bears They have new uniforms and Curtis Conway. Other than that they are sorry. 9-7
New Orleans Saints I don’t know anything about the Saints, just that thier colors are black and gold. The reason why I haven’t heard about this team is because they don’t do anything but lose. I hope they get their act together.7-9
St. Louis Rams The Rams did everything they were supposed to do last season. They went to St. Louis, won a couple of games and then lost the rest of them. I look forward to seeing them play a little more serious than they have in the past. 7-9
Tampa Bay Buccaneers They don’t even get TV time. Sorry. 6-10
Minnesota Vikings They’re going to sit there like sap on a tree. They have Warren Moon but they don’t have enough receivers who can catch and run with the ball. 5-11
Carolina Panthers They are an expansion team and just like the Jaguars, they’ll be going through the motions for awhile. 5-11
New York Giants Rebuilding time. They’ll flourish in about five years. 4-12
Arizona Cardinals Buddy Ryan’s boys won’t do anything this year in the heat of Arizona. Maybe he should’ve voted for Martin Luther King Day and they would’ve had a sellout at their stadium. 4-12
American Football Conference
Miami Dolphins Jimmy Johnson, the best coach of the decade, will take the team to the Superbowl. 11-5
San Diego Chargers: The Chargers were the hardest team in the AFC. They went to the Superbowl, but they were overshadowed by the 49ers. I think that they lost a little confidence which made them lose their edge but it’s a new season and I look forward to a change. 11-5
Pittsburgh Steelers Although they are without Neal O’Donnell, I think that with Kordel Stewart, they will still bring the steel curtain to teams in the AFC. 10-6
Kansas City Chiefs They were one of the hardest and boldest teams in the NFL last year, carried by the legends, Joe Montana and Marcus Allen. I think they’re going to be just as good this year but they’re going to have to rely on their defense more with the absence of number 19. 9-7
Denver Broncos Superbowl contender. They better hurry up. John Elway isn’t getting any younger. 8-8
Indianapolis Colts The Colts had a Cinderella season last year. I honestly thought that they had caught the ball but that’s football and instant replay. They will have a decent season but not as dramatic as it was last year. 96′ season predictions. 9-7
New England Patriots Another team that doesn’t get any TV time. They have a strong quarterback and special teams but because they play in the AFC I don’t think they will have the season that they should.
9-7
Oakland Raiders The Raiders have the fastest wide receivers in the NFL so what’s the problem? They have Napolean Kaufman but they don’t want to play him too much because of Harvey Williams. The Raiders have the best chance in the AFC to win the Superbowl, but I think they are going to choke like last year. 7-9
Cincinnati Bengals: All wrong. 7-9
Jacksonville Jaguars Too inexperienced. 7-9
Seattle Seahawks The Seahawks are the Rams of the AFC. They believe that if you leave and go to another city, something will change about your team. The only thing that changes, though, is your flight pattern and your fans. 6-10
Buffalo Bills The BILLS stand for “Boy I Love Losing Superbowls.” Everything is old about the Bills—their quarterback, their coach, Bruce Smith, the receivers. 6-10
Baltimore Ravens Baltimore will not welcome the former Cleveland Browns. 5-11
New York Jets I would give their front office a Superbowl ring for acquiring Neal O’Donnell. 4-12
Houston Oilers They shouldn’t have given away Warren Moon. Overshadowed in Texas by you-know-who. 3-13 “
