Power 106 plays fresher songs than the Beat 92

“The Beat is nice and everything but I would like to wake up to some Tribe Called Quest and some Method Man, you know, like POWER does it. This is more underground hip hop that you can’t hear every day. It just makes me happy. It gives you a different taste of the other side of hip hop and rap, the side that has all sorts of artists and all sorts of meanings.
One of the Beat’s October playlists shows they played Big Bad Mamma by Foxy Brown featuring Dru Hill 32 times. It is a great song but it’s been out for a while. She does have a new cut, “Firm Biz,” off the Firm album. Power is playing that cut. Can we get some publicity for Ms. Brown? Hello? REPRESENT, handle your business. It’s not fair to an artist if their old song constantly gets played, when they have a whole new song with a new message that barely gets airplay at all.
Power has bypassed the Beat a little bit on some notes. Just try going to bed listening to Power’s Cherry Martinez pumping up some Busta Rhymes, Redman, Jamiroquai, Mac 10 and SWV. You’ll see what I mean. You know the Beat is a very successful radio station, in some aspects and because of Theo. But have you heard the 10 o’clock Loco Mix on Power? Once again, off the hook, they REPRESENT! I’m not knocking the Beat, but there is tons of new music out there, that should be played more and represented so it could break more color lines, make it universal. Power doesn’t play you out with all that commercial hip hop; they mix it all up for you so you don’t get tired of it.
But you don’t have to take my word for it. Look at these two playlists for the week of Tuesday, Oct. 28.
