Is high school like prison?

“High school is a drag. As a senior, I’m tired of being told what to do by my teachers and parents. I feel like I’m their puppet, and they’re each in charge of their own string. Everything is dictated; which classes I take, who my teachers are and what days and times I have to come in. I can’t wait to get out of this prison. Sometimes when I wake up to go to school, my heart starts beating fast and my stomach hurts because I don’t want to go. But I have to. If I don’t, my parents would kill me. And I wouldn’t graduate or go on to college.
Another thing that really bothers me is the attitudes of some of the teachers. If one of them is having a bad day, they lash out at the students. Sometimes if you say something to someone during a test, they give you a zero. Sometimes when you are really getting into a subject and actually want to learn, there is some clown who disrupts the class and annoys everyone. Though I have had some good teachers, they are rare, compared to all of the boring classes and rude teachers I have had to put up with. Waking up to the same routine every day that I didn’t choose really takes a toll.
High school may be prison-like, but now that I’ve been to Juvenile Hall, I know that prison is a lot worse. I’m glad I have more options. But that doesn’t make it any easier to get through the long, boring day.”
