Facts on Zoroastrianism
Brief facts on Zoroastrianism.
“Why there are no Zoroastrian temples in the United States
Unfortunately for the Zoroastrians in the United States, the only real fire temples are in India and Iran. They cannot be properly constructed here because the fire for the temple has to be consecrated in a very special way. (You can’t just set a bunch of logs to burn!) Many priests don’t even know the proper way to consecrate fires anymore, and if we ever did have the means for building a fire temple, there would be the problem of constantly having to tend fires, which must continuously burn without running out of fuel or being blown out.
How Zoroastrians dispose of the dead
Zoroastrian disposal of its dead is in accordance with modern environmental information which encourages the non-pollution of the natural elements. After the funeral ceremony and saying of respects to the departed soul, Zoroastrians take the body to a place called the Tower of Silence in India, where it is exposed to the sun and the sky. Here the corpse is eaten by vultures and hygienically decomposed by the rays of the sun. Periodically, the powdered remains of the bones are swept into a deep pit.”
