Peter Tadao Matthew Gee was named Outstanding Youth Volunteer for National Philanthropy Day by the Southern California Association for Philanthropy. He will be honored at their annual breakfast on November 19 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Peter is a 17-year-old junior at Pilgrim High School in Los Angeles. He has volunteered at the Japanese American Museum for almost four years, and he volunteers with Asians for Miracle Marrow Matches, an official recruitment group for the National Marrow Donor Program.

"I originally came to the Museum because I thought it was a great way to give back to the Japanese-American community. I have learned so much more about my identity and heritage through volunteering and talking with volunteers, staff and visitors. It makes me feel good to pass on the knowledge of struggles and trials that my community has gone through. I hope that through this, we as a nation will not make the same mistakes again."

Peter plans to pursue a career in Human/Civil Rights Advocacy or Social Work.
