“”Biggie, Biggie, Biggie, can’t you see,” that you were a good role model for us, “sometimes your words just hypnotize me.” Biggie Smalls, who was gunned down right outside the LA Youth office, was a man that one day would have made history by inspiring all sorts of people, young and old. And would have been the biggest poppa to son Christopher “Little Chris” Wallace Jr. and daughter T’Yanna. Where the rap world is going, I do not know, but isn’t it obvious, can’t you see that our world leaders are savagely being murdered, JFK shot, Mal-colm X shot, Mar-tin Luther King boom, Tupac, and now Biggie. What’s the purpose? BEEF.
People are saying Notorious B.I.G.’s lifestyle killed him. But how do they know? No one has walked, talked, nor lived in his shoes. We took what he showed us, the struggle of how to eat, learn, live—the game. The game that a lot of us are familiar with. Yea, okay he had to hustle to feed his baby, and there’s a lot of sacrificing that goes on with everyone’s family, whether it be emotions or a chance to live.
Biggie said he went from “ashy to nasty to classy,” but maybe he didn’t completely leave the old lifestyle alone. Regardless, people are constantly jealous because he’s a black man. The pressure is three times worse, of staying real and keeping it real. I guess they were “Player Haters,” to play off of one of Biggie’s songs.
Let’s keep the East West stuff out of it because these two coasts are just places where people reside, that none of us own. If that’s the cause, then I’ll pray for those who have that ignorance in them. Whatever the cause, I’ll pray for the ones who pulled the trigger.
I say it’s stupid. He could have been the one, in five years, to spark a kid’s mind into doing right. He had more things to tell us about Biggie and why he loved for people to call him “Big Poppa.” And he might not be visibly here, but his music lives on. I send condolences to Little Chris, T’Yanna, his wife Faith, Sean “Puffy” Combs, Kim and Bad Boy. And through Faith and Puff, Little Chris will know his poppa.
“We used ta cuss when the landlords dissed us—no heat!
Wondered why Christmas missed us
Birthdays were the worst days
But now we sip champagne when we thirsty
Uh, ya’ damn right I love the life I live
‘Cause I went from negative to positive”
—Notorious B.I.G.”
