Noodles have always been my favorite food. This August, Fu Fang Yuan, a Chinese restaurant that makes the best noodles I have ever tasted, opened in Rowland Heights, which is located east of the San Gabriel Valley. In the restaurant, there is a big window into the kitchen where people can see how their food is made—fresh. It’s truly amazing watching the chefs knead, fold and stretch the dough.
Noodle House serves Northern Chinese-style food including noodle soups, noodles, steamed buns (warm, biscuit-like dough wrapped around savory, juicy pork mixed with scallions) and dumplings, rather than specializing in rice dishes. Noodle House’s pork with spring onion bun is delicious. The fluffy dough used to wrap the beef soaks up the beef juice and when you bite into it, the flavor spills into your mouth. Eight buns are served in a pot. My sister loves the green onion pancake, which is basically a fried, triangle-shaped pancake with green onions. This savory pancake is crispy on the top and bottom while the inside is chewy. The fish with vegetables dumpling is also delicious. The dough is chewy with a perfectly crispy bottom and the dumpling doesn’t have a strong fishy smell. The dumpling is filled with fresh white fish and yellow chives.
Whenever I go, I always order the beef stew noodle soup. It is my favorite dish. The noodles are chewy and handmade fresh, just like the dumpling skins. The beef is my favorite part because it is tender and juicy and the soup comes with a lot of beef in it. The noodles, like the steamed bun, soak up the soup and give off a lot of flavor when you bite into them. My second favorite dish is the pork soybean noodle bowl. The bowl has noodles, cucumbers, carrots and bean sprouts. The pork and soybean paste comes separately so you can control how much paste to put on your noodles. The vegetables are crunchy which contrasts the noodle’s chewiness.
I would highly recommend Noodle House to my friends and relatives Most of the dishes are under $10 and the chefs prepare generous portions. Even though the spellings on the menu are incorrect, the food is still great and Noodle House is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Southern California.
