Movie review: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is the type of movie that will have you on your knees begging for more. It’s got action, comedy, suspense and scary moments. This is the best movie I’ve seen since The Half-blood Prince.

In the previous Harry Potter films we’ve come to know the world’s scariest evil wizard of all time, Lord Voldemort. He’s been successful in gathering a group of evil wizards, called Death Eaters. The wizards who didn’t join him, he killed. Unfortunately for Voldemort he couldn’t kill every wizard. Harry Potter was only left with a scar when he tried to kill him when he was a baby. Voldemort’s number one mission is to kill Harry.

I really like Voldemort. He is the evilest—more evil than the devil. And the actor who plays him, Ralph Fiennes, is good and creepy. Voldemort had used a spell and put parts of his soul into seven objects called Horcrux. As long as those objects are safe he will live forever. Voldemort is racing to find the Deathly Hallows, which are three magical objects, so that he can be powerful enough to kill Harry.

While in hiding from Voldemort’s Death Eaters, Harry and his friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, must find the remaining Horcruxes to defeat the dark lord. While on their journey searching for the Horcuxes, they learn about the legend of the Deathly Hallows and Harry realizes he must quickly find the Horcruxes before Voldemort finds the Deathly Hallows.

This movie had me jittering with excitement. One intense moment is when Harry and his friends drink a potion that turns them into other wizards so they can steal a Horcrux. I was biting my nails, hoping they had enough time before the potion wore off so that they could get out alive.

The characters have matured a lot throughout the years. It was sweet when Harry and Hermione were dancing. You can see how their friendship has grown from when they didn’t like each other. In another scene, Ron is being forced to watch a mirage of Harry and Hermione locking lips while nude. I was shocked but expected something like this to happen seeing how they’re not 14 anymore. I still see them as little kids. It seems like just yesterday they were getting their wands and now they’re naked.

The movie left me with my jaw open. Since I haven’t read the book yet I asked myself who would live? Who would die? Harry or Voldemort, perhaps both? I won’t know for sure until July 2011 when the second part of Deathly Hallows hits theaters.
