Duties

I am responsible for: overseeing the distribution of L.A. Youth’s 70,000 copies per issue, maintaining a database of corporate, charitable and individual donors; preparing Letters of Intent and grant proposals; research to find potential advertisers and funders; bookkeeping; coordinating special events, managing board of directors activities; generating advertising revenue and preparing advertising materials for publication.

Previous professional experience

I began as a pension plan administrator, handling plans for small corporations such as medical practices, law offices and others. In 1989, I began working with a small accounting firm in Brentwood, handling general accounting, individual and corporate income taxes, pension plans, personal financial planning and business management. In 1992, I moved on to Lexicon Marketing, a company that sells English language courses to Spanish speaking customers. I eventually rose to the position of accounts receivable manager, responsible for more than $20 million in receivables from individuals and supervising a staff of five.

In 2003, I left Lexicon when the company was sold and took a part-time job for a local retailer, working closely with the collection manager. My main duties included representing the company in small claims court, monitoring of collection rates and general office work.
