Duties
-EDITORIAL: I help the teen staff of 80 transform their ideas into stories, illustrations and photographs for our newspaper, which has 350,000 readers. I assist teens with reporting, research, writing and sometimes arrange for interviews and transportation. I help students through an intensive revision and copy-editing process, which involves everything from the basics of grammar and structure to the more sophisticated concepts of voice and point-of-view.
I’m also responsible for maintaining www.layouth.com and posting new material to the website.
Prior to joining L.A. Youth, I worked for four years as a newspaper reporter at the Albany Times Union in Albany, N.Y., where I covered three large suburban towns. As a city desk reporter I covered everything from how streets get named to murder suicides to proms to budgets.
I received my Masters in newspaper journalism from Syracuse University in 1998 and I graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in philosophy in 1997.
