Fights involving black and Latino students have occurred at six high school campuses this spring.

Thursday, March 10

Three lunchtime fights prompted a school lockdown at Baldwin Park High School, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

Friday, March 25
A lunchtime dance ended in a fight at Sierra Vista High in Baldwin Park, according to Sierra Vista students Jesus Galvan and George Zuo.

Thursday, April 14

A lunchtime fight at Jefferson High School near downtown involved about 100 students, and three were hurt, according to the Los Angeles Unified School District police.

Friday, April 15
Lunchtime fights at Santa Monica High School involved at least 10-12 students and hundreds of others watched, Principal Ilene Straus said in an official statement.

Monday, April 18
A second fight at Jefferson High School during lunch period involved more than 100 students. Six students were detained and two arrested. One student broke his hip while running from the police, according to the LAUSD police.

Thursday, April 28
A fight between about 50 students occurred at Fairfax High in Los Angeles during nutrition. There were no injuries, but several students were sprayed with pepper spray, according to the LAUSD police.

Friday, April 29
A confrontation occurred between about 100 students at Jordan High School in South Los Angeles. After school police tried to separate them, students threw bottles and rocks at them. One student was arrested for battery on a school police officer, according to the LAUSD police.

Thursday, May 5
After rumors of violence on Cinco de Mayo, LAUSD reported 51,000 students absent from middle and high schools, an absentee rate of 18 percent. No fights were reported that day.
