BAGS

I learned how to sew from my mother. When I was young and practiced sewing scraps together, I never imagined that I could use my skills to make presents. I enjoy sewing tote bags for friends because they’re useful and thoughtful. When I look at a tote bag, I see a blank canvas. I try to choose fabrics with designs that match the personality or tastes of the person I’m giving it to. I once made a bag out of zebra print with ruby-red heart buttons for a friend who liked zebras. I also made a pink polka-dot bag with a fabric ice-cream cone for a sweet friend. I love seeing my friends smile when they carry their bags for the first time. A bag is a difficult project for a beginner. But if you feel ready to give it a try, the tutorial I follow is at craftster.org.
